There are no academic prerequisites for the CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure and Health. But you need to have reasonable English language, literacy and numeracy to successfully complete the course (LLN). ). In addition a Police Clearance Certificate and working with children’s check is mandatory prior to your work placement. Therefore you must undertake a Federal Police Check (AFP) or NSW Police check (it must be no less than 12 months old).

These checks must be completed prior to industry work placement. The students must be physically be able to do moderate amount of lifting using the appropriate equipment. The students should not have any mobility, hearing, and vision problems to carry out duties efficiently in the hospital or community care settings whilst at placement.

Students who have completed the Certificate III in Individual Support will have some units that they will receive credit for. In addition those students who have completed the Certificate IV of Ageing Support and or Disability, will have credits to units that make up this Certificate IV in Leisure and Health (these are indicated with an asterisk in the table of units that make up this qualification – see below).

• Diploma of Leisure and Health

This course is 26 weeks. The structure is as follows:

• Two days of workshops a week (8 hours each) over 22 weeks
• Work placement of 120 hours in total (15 days) to be spread over 3-4 weeks

As this is a nationally recognise qualification, you will be required to successfully complete all units to a standard to ensure that you are job ready. Each unit contains assessments which are:

• Practical demonstrations where you will be observed by one of our assessors in a simulated environment and in your work Placement
• Knowledge based tests which contain written short answer questions
• Small projects which contain written tasks for you to investigate and complete in your own time.

Note: You must be deemed competent with each unit in order to receive your qualification.

Delivery is a combination of methods to cover the theory and practice requirements:

• Workshops for developing your theory (maximum of 20 students)
• Demonstrations, instructions in a simulated environment to give you that valuable practice (maximum of 10 students) Self-paced study and support to embed your learning
• Work placements to apply your skills

You will be trained in use of different Mobility Aids. Such as:

• Different Mobility Aids, Transferring using Walk Belt, Setting up of Dining Tables Etc,
• Conducting activities-Assessment and Planning,
• Managing Medications and other Medical conditions for Outing.

Work Placement at a Community Service facility is arranged with you and you will receive the support of one of our mentors to ensure this opportunity is a rewarding experience. For work placement, students have to wear trousers and black closed shoes, we will provide you with a T-shirt.

Our course has been designed to meet the requirements for the CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure and Health. It contains 17 Units; 10 Core units and 7 Elective units:

* These units were in other Certificate IV qualifications (such as Ageing Support and Disability) so students of those completed courses will be eligible for credit transfer

You may have developed a number of skills in community service or care, through previous employment opportunities, life experience or formal studies. If this is the case then you should ask about recognition of prior learning. This may shorten your course. If you hold a current First Aid Certificate from a recognised RTO you will be given credit for the first aid unit.

• The Work placement is a mandatory component in Certificate IV in Leisure and Health, where ALL students should complete 240 hours of clinical work experience in different community services centres. Work placements can be challenging, yet rewarding component of the course.

• Different community services are committed to provide students opportunity to put their theory into practice and do meaningful work to improve the lives of individuals.

• Work placement is organised by ICON EDUCATION and happens at set times in the terms as per course time table.

We collaborate with many leading community services that offer ongoing work placements for students, and in many instances, employ our students after completing their course requirements. We cover various community services like:

• Individual and Family Support (Disability Client Services, Youth Justice and Housing Advice and Assistance.
• Residential Client Services (Disability Accommodation Services and Tenancy and Property Team)
• Child Protection Units (CPU)
• Drug and Alcohol Rehabs and other community services within NSW.
•  Detail description about work placement like duration, requirements, dress code and others can be given to you in your clinical portfolios before commencement of placements.
• Work placements locations are spread throughout Sydney which are managed and supported by ICON EDUCATION.
